Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP)

What is meant by oxidation-reduction potential? An ORP value indicates the ability of the alkaline water to act as an antioxidant. Oxidant, by definition, is an oxidizing agent, while antioxidant is any substance that acts to slow or prevent the oxidation of another chemical.

An ORP value indicates the ability of the alkaline water to act as an antioxidant. The more negative the ORP number, the stronger the antioxidant properties of the alkaline water.

For example, green tea, which is known to have strong antioxidant effects on the body, has a negative ORP value. On the other hand, sodas and soft drinks, which are acidic in the body, have positive ORP values.

Minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium seem to have an alkalizing effect in the body, so alkaline water should contain these natural minerals in order to actually have a pH-lowering effect in your body.

  • -Negative ORP (Oxidation-Reduction Potential)

Active Hydrogen rich water is characterized by exhibiting a negative ORP. A high ORP value (in positive numbers), indicates that a substance has a higher oxidizing potential. In generalized terms, for humans a positive or high ORP is better for the outside of the body (cleaning and sanitizing).

A low ORP value (in negative numbers) indicates that a substance has a higher anti-oxidizing potential, and is preferred for oral consumption.

Just like pH, ORP values are an important measurement for determining the quality of water.
